Add Favicon to Your Blog or Site!
Favicon stands for Favorite Icon. This Favicon is a small image which is displayed next to the url in the address bar of the web browser, see the image below. This icon is the identity of the site, and it also appears the in bookmark list.
Favicon is not a new concept, it was introduced way back with Internet Explorer 5, although you cannot see it beside the address bar but it was still some where, which I don’t know =p. Now is supported with all the major Internet browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Safari and Opera.
Initially, you had to store a “favicon.ico” file in your root directory, which was detected and shown automatically by Internet Explorer, but now it more flexible. Now you can add customized favicon of your own choice. This image is not only limited to “.ico” extensions any more, you can now add “.gif” or “.jpg” image extensions too, until it is 16X16 or 32X32 pixel in size.
